Enclosure
3.
Hon. P. H. Holyoak,
Legislative Council,
Hongkong.
Dear Sir,
Hongkong, April 16th., 1919.
359
I am prepared to submit estimates on improving
the wireless system of Hongkong so that messages of a commercial
nature can be sent great distances with little alteration to the
apparatus now inthe Colony. Also I beg to state that I am the
agent for a very successful wireless concern which manufactures
this apparatus at Seattle and whose prices on new installations
are very low.
For your further information I will state that my
plan is briefly to stretch a wirerope from two of the peaks of the
island, say the peaks on either side of the Governor's summer
residence or over the gap above Happy Valley, and suspend from this
ropeway the rode to which the wireless wires are fastened. The
ground wires could then be conducted to any suitable sending
station. By the above arrangement the expense of towers will be done away with, a great height can be obtained and the installa- -tion be made Typhoon proof.
If wireless apparatus now on hand is used the only
cost would be that of the wirerope and its anchoring at either
and in the solid formation.
Very truly yours,
(Sd.) G. F. Ober,
